REEF: Kids for the Reef School Excursion Rebate - Application Form

Program Overview

The Australian Government is providing $6 million under the REEF: Kids for the Reef School Excursion Rebate Program (the Program) to eligible schools and home educators to subsidise costs for students in Years 4 to 12 across Australia to travel to and participate in eligible curriculum-related learning experiences within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and World Heritage Area (the Reef). The Program will run from 21 July 2026 to 30 June 2028.

Australian schools and home educators can apply for the rebate on behalf of their students for participation in eligible reef education experiences that relate to the Australian Curriculum and are delivered by approved High Standard Tourism Operators (HSTOs). You can find a list of approved HSTOs here: REEF: Kids for the Reef School Excursion Rebate Program

The intended outcomes of the Program are:

  • increased student visitation to the Reef, smoothing seasonality and supporting local tourism operators and businesses
  • increased awareness of and education about the Reef and the importance of sustainable tourism
  • increased participation in activities which contribute to the long-term sustainability of the Reef.
